According to Alphaliner, the number of container ships out of the market waiting for scrubber retrofits reaches record high, reports Ship & Bunker.
Record high retrofits
According to the shipping intelligence service Alphaliner, the number of container ships out of the market waiting for scrubber retrofits, have reached a record high.
Alphaliner said, the offline capacity reached 1.02 million twenty foot equivalent units by 21 February. It added saying that this is the highest level since it started measuring the data at the start of last year.
High offline capacity
As Chinese yards account for 77% of current ongoing scrubber installations, delays caused due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak may be responsible for the increase in offline capacity.
Still, the number of ships arriving at the yards for retrofits are more. Since 1st February, 25 container ships were in for retrofits while just 15 vessels departed after completed retrofits.
