Q-LNG Gets USGC Approval for Its Variant Design Bunkering Vessels

  • USCG approves Q-LNG’s bunkering vessels design.
  • The USCG’s design basis letter (DBL), allows Q-LNG to further develop its LNG fueling facility in North America.
  •  Q-LNG to own and manage assets and provide LNG transportation to several major ports on the Atlantic Coast, Caribbean and the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

USCG gave its regulatory approval and design basis acceptance to the Quality Liquefied Natural Gas Transport (Q-LNG), for its two variants construction, reports Safety4Sea.

What is the benefit?

Gaining this approval, the marine transportation company will have the ability to move forward with its construction plans.

The designs each for a 5.400-cbm and 8.000-cbm articulated tug/barge (ATB), are both of the 4.000 cbm ATB design. They are under construction at VT Halter in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

CEO’s comment 

“This new project will closely mirror the current vessel under construction by utilizing a significant amount of the design and engineering details, applying all lessons and efficiencies learned from the 4,000-cbm ATB. Q-LNG will be able to deliver the follow-on designs in a shorter period of time at a highly competitive price.”

Who will manage the assets?

For the records, Q-LNG will own and manage these assets, in order to provide LNG transportation to several major ports on the Atlantic Coast, Caribbean and the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

  • Q-LNG has shaken hands with VT Halter for the establishment of the US’s first offshore LNG ATB. 
  • The ABT is under construction and is designed to carry 4.00 cubic meters of LNG while meeting the requirements of US Flag, ABS Class and the International Gas Carrier Code.
