The recovery of a fighter jet that crashed into San Diego Bay this week may take up to two weeks, according to the Navy. The two-member crew safely ejected before the crash, which appears to have been caused by a mechanical issue, reports Fox News.

Jet Crashed

An EA-18G Growler jet crashed into San Diego Bay near Shelter Island on Wednesday morning during an aborted landing approach to Naval Air Station North Island. Witnesses reported seeing the plane flying at unusually low altitudes before it nosedived into the water.

Both pilots ejected safely and were rescued by a fishing boat. They were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and later released. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

The Navy has issued a statement urging the public to stay clear of the crash site and avoid interfering with ongoing recovery efforts. While civilian boat traffic can continue through the harbor, they are advised to exercise caution and avoid the areas where recovery operations are taking place.
