A Look At The World’s Largest Liquefied Petroleum Gas Carrier

On April 26th, HARZAND, the world’s first large liquefied gas carrier with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters developed, designed and built by Jiangnan Shipyard under China State Shipbuilding Corporation, was named in Shanghai and is scheduled to be delivered to the owner today.

Fourth generation VLGC

HARZAND was built by Jiangnan Shipyard for PETREDEC, a Singaporean company. It is the fourth generation VLGC (Very Large Gas Carriers) model developed and designed independently by Jiangnan Shipyard, named Panda 93P.

The total length of HARZAND is 230 meters, with a width of 36.6 meters and a service speed of 16.5 knots. 

It adopts the fourth-generation patented line type (VS-Bow MK-IV), which can have excellent and balanced performance under full load, ballast conditions, and different specific gravity liquid cargo loading conditions.

World’s largest liquefied petroleum gas carrier

The 93,000 cubic meter VLGC is currently the largest type of VLGC ship in the world. Compared to similar products domestically and internationally, it has strong competitive advantages in terms of ship performance.

In addition, the capacity of the ship’s liquid cargo hold has been upgraded with a net weight increase of only 250 tons. 

Fuel endurance has reached 23,000 nautical miles and the levels of oil consumption and gas consumption are leading international standards.

Setting new record

The ship has set a new record: it achieved the first “three-in-one” trial voyage in the history of liquefied gas ship construction by Jiangnan Shipyard, which means that regular trials, gas trials and gas tests can be completed at once. This indicates that the vessel can be put into operation immediately after delivery.

Since obtaining its first breakthrough in 2012, Jiangnan Shipyard has accumulated a total of 52 orders, including 18 orders for ships with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters.
