The classification society DNV has given LMG Marin AS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-based shipyard Sembcorp Marine Ltd, Wärtsilä Voyage, and Grieg Edge an Approval in Principle (AiP) for the design of a tanker that runs on green ammonia, says an article published in Manifold Times.
Zero-emission
LMG Marin AS is a ship design and naval architecture firm with a portfolio of vessel designs, including zero-emission vessels.
The MS Green Ammonia, the world’s first green ammonia-fueled 120m-long tanker, will run on an ammonia engine with a cargo capacity of 7,500m3 of ammonia and a loading rate of 1,000m3 per hour.
Transport and distribute
The ship will be part of the broader Berlevg project in northern Norway, where a partnership of Norwegian enterprises wants to generate green ammonia utilising Raggovidda wind farm power.
From 2024, the MS Green Ammonia will transport and distribute green ammonia fuel between Norway’s mainland and the North Pole.
