Raffi Freedman-Gurspan is a full-time member of staff in the White House. She is an outreach and recruitment director for presidential staff. She supports transgender rights. She worked as a policy adviser for the National Center for Transgender Equality (NTCE) before her White House appointment.
She is a transgender and the first to be appointed in the White House in a latest move by President Barack Obama to support the LGBT rights. Her appointment is appreciated by the key members of the LGBT community. It also reflects “the values of this administration,” a senior White House official said.
“Our government works best when it reflects the reality of who we are as Americans,” said Aisha Moodie-Mills, the Head of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and Institute.
The move by the Department of Defense to review its ban on appointment of transgender men and women in the military is welcomed by the White House.
