Project carrier AAL Shipping (AAL) has today, June 11, 2025, released its Sustainability Report 2024, prepared by Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. The report showcases a significant achievement for the company, indicating that AAL has met 95% of its Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) targets across both its land and sea operations globally.

Commitment To ESG

AAL’s recent report emphasizes the company’s strong commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance, underscoring its belief that a sustainable and responsible future is crucial for long-term value across its entire value chain. AAL Chairman Heinrich Schoeller credited the company’s progress to the enduring partnerships cultivated over three decades with customers, regulators, suppliers, local communities, and staff.

The report details AAL’s dedication to its environmental responsibilities, showcasing a significant achievement: an overall reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2024 compared to 2021, despite operating a larger fleet and employing more people across its global office network. This progress in a key ESG area is attributed to two primary factors:

  • The introduction of new, more fuel-efficient ‘Super B-Class’ vessels.
  • Reduced electricity consumption across several AAL offices.

Steward Chen, AAL’s Research and Analytics Manager, highlighted a major milestone in the company’s decarbonization journey. “2024 marked a major milestone in our decarbonisation journey with the delivery of the first four vessels of our eight-strong Super B-Class fleet,” he stated. These 32,000-deadweight heavy lifters are built with methanol-ready engines, next-generation hull coatings, and advanced route optimization software. According to Chen, these vessels are now servicing larger and more complex cargoes in dynamic sectors like offshore energy, enabling AAL to transport more cargo units per voyage, thereby reducing the number of sailings required and significantly lowering overall GHG emissions.
