  • Tanker operator Tärntank to trial OVERSEA Fleet Support Center services, a digital solution developed in collaboration between ABB and Wallenius Marine.
  • The trial is to cover six tankers, addressing optimization opportunities covering engine, hull, and propeller auxiliary systems, and other solutions to lower emissions.
  • OVERSEA services combine fleet management expertise with advanced analytics to drive better operational decisions and enable performance gains for ships.

Danish tanker operator Tärntank will operationally test services from OVERSEA, a collaboration between ABB and Wallenius Marine, on its fleet of six vessels, with the aim of exploring opportunities to improve operational performance, reads an ABB release.

The operational test will include the performance of main engines, hull, propellers and auxiliary systems as well as forecasting and monitoring of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII). The trial will also include land-based support, which will be provided as needed.

ABB, Wallenius Marine partner up to monitor CII performance

OVERSEA is a digital decision support collaboration between ABB and Wallenius Marine that helps ship owners, operating organizations, and operators improve the operational performance of ships, including by reducing fuel consumption, costs, and emissions, as well as improving reliability and safety. The OVERSEA collaboration leverages ABB’s extensive expertise in ship engineering and the ABB Ability™ Genix Industrial Analytics and AI IoT platform, combined with Wallenius Marine’s decades of ship management and ship performance experience.

Tärntank will operationally test a decision support service for operational performance that consists not only of a tool but a full range of services. OVERSEA’s service offering will include expert support covering the entire improvement cycle and is particularly well-suited for small and medium-sized organizations, such as Tärntank, to improve the vessel’s operational performance in a structured way.

The initial tests will focus on OVERSEA functions covering main engines, hull and propellers, auxiliary units, and CII support for six 15,000 dwt product and chemical tankers,” says Claes Möller, CEO of Tärntank Ship Management AB. “We see looking forward to our ship crews and office staff working with the experts at the OVERSEA Fleet Support Center on a common platform to turn insights into action and further improve ship performance.”

We look forward to seeing the results of these tests to create value both for Tärntank and their customers,” says Niklas Sundén, Commercial Manager, OVERSEA. “Conventional solutions that provide insights into performance often leave it up to customers to contextualize the data and come on measures to improve performance. OVERSEA will be used by both the customers’ crews on board and personnel on shore, together with OVERSEA’s experts managing the process and workflows. For us, collaboration and full transparency are essential for us to be able to translate the insights about performance into action.”

Tankers are a very interesting area for OVERSEA’s services, as there are 10,000 such vessels in the world, and they make up a third of the global fleet. Owners and operators can subscribe to support as a service, use OVERSEA’s digital solution, and collaborate with the center’s experts.
