ABS Awards First Cyber Resilience Notation to Offshore Units

6

ABS has issued its CR-Ex cyber resilience notation to three offshore units operated by Jana Marine Services: JANA 505, 508, and 509. This is the first time this notation has been awarded to offshore units. The notation applies elements of the IACS UR E26 Cyber Resilience requirements to existing vessels, improving their cyber safety.

Enhancing Cyber Safety

This achievement is a significant step forward for offshore operations, as it addresses the growing cyber threats that accompany increased digital connectivity on vessels. The CR-Ex notation is part of the updated ABS Guide for Cybersecurity Implementation for the Marine and Offshore Industries, CyberSafety® Volume 2. This guide provides requirements for both operational technology (OT) and related information technology (IT) systems on commercial vessels and offshore assets. According to ABS Vice President Gareth Burton, this notation reflects the commitment to leading the industry in cyber resilience and helping clients safeguard their critical systems.

Commitment to Innovation

Mohamed Alsubaie, CEO of Jana Marine Services, stated that this accomplishment underscores the company’s commitment to cyber safety, innovation, and operational excellence. This new notation builds on the SMART notation the company received in 2024, further demonstrating its dedication to technical leadership and mitigating cyber risks. This initiative also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which focuses on economic diversification and the development of innovative opportunities.
