Innovative Offshore Design Receives Key Recognition

The Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) has achieved a significant milestone as its offshore hydrogen and ammonia production platform design secured Approval in Principle (AIP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). This recognition underscores the growing importance of green hydrogen in the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.

A Sustainable Energy Landscape Powered by Wind

KRISO’s groundbreaking design harnesses the power of wind energy to generate green hydrogen. The platform integrates several key components, including a desalination system that converts seawater into clean water, an electrolysis system that produces hydrogen via water electrolysis, a compression system to pressurize the hydrogen, a nitrogen separation system, and an ammonia synthesis system. The ABS AIP primarily focused on assessing the safety and feasibility of this innovative concept.
