According to the Marine Link report the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) has appointed the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to establish the U.S. Center for Maritime Innovation, dedicated to advancing clean energy across American vessels. Funded by Congress, the centre aims to foster research, development, and training to drive sustainable maritime practices.

Supporting Clean Energy Adoption

The centre will identify research gaps and assess emerging maritime technologies to support clean energy use. ABS will guide the industry through complex regulatory frameworks, offering insights into the best available technologies to help U.S. maritime entities navigate environmental requirements.

Collaborating for Industry Transformation

Over the coming months, ABS and MARAD will engage stakeholders and outline research initiatives. The centre will also partner with academia and private training organizations to shape training strategies that meet evolving needs across the inland, deep-water, and coastal U.S. fleets.
