ABS reports that it will start providing ISPS Code audits on behalf of the Italian Administration from 1 January 2025, following an agreement signed at Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport (MIT).
Statutory Activities under the Agreement
As a Recognized Organization for the Italian Administration, ABS will perform key statutory duties including:
- Approval of Ship Security Plans
- Security Verifications
- Issuance of Interim International Ship Security Certificates
- International Ship Security Certificates to be issued to ships that are classified by ABS
These activities are meant to ensure compliance with the ISPS Code and to maintain the highest standards of maritime security.

Signing Ceremony at MIT Headquarters
The agreement was signed during a signing ceremony held at the MIT headquarters in Rome. In attendance were Vice Premier Matteo Salvini, Minister of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, Admiral Ispettore Capo Nicola Carlone, as well as Paolo Puccio, ABS Manager, Business Development.
