An ABS post on LinkedIn talks about how all escape routes on board must be kept unobstructed.

Survey of a newly constructed bulk carrier

During a survey of a newly constructed bulk carrier, it was discovered that the upper deck door and trunk cover were secured with a welded staple and an exterior padlock attached to the door frame.

Both the door and trunk cover served as escape routes from the engine room.

The ISPS Code mandates the implementation of security plans to prevent unauthorized access to ships.

According to SOLAS regulations, escape routes on board must be kept unobstructed.
