Accelleron Targets Maritime Emissions with Net-Zero Roadmap at LISW25

At this year’s London International Shipping Week (LISW25), Accelleron is set to unveil a new report titled “Breaking the Carbon-Neutral Fuel Deadlock to Accelerate Shipping’s Net Zero Future,” reads an official press release.

The report will be launched on September 16, 2025, during an event at the LISW Global Hub at County Hall in London. This launch marks a major step in Accelleron’s efforts to address one of the most pressing challenges in the maritime sector: the inability to scale carbon-neutral fuels quickly enough to meet net-zero goals.

The urgency behind this initiative is clear. With global temperatures now averaging 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels, the pressure on the maritime industry to reduce emissions is more intense than ever. While technologies such as turbocharging can offer immediate fuel and energy efficiency benefits, they are not enough on their own. The industry must overcome structural barriers that have stalled the development and adoption of carbon-neutral fuels.

A Three-Way Stalemate Blocking Progress

According to Accelleron’s new report, the shipping sector faces a complex three-way deadlock. Shipowners are reluctant to invest in carbon-neutral ships without assurance that fuel supply and infrastructure will be available. Fuel producers, in turn, hesitate to ramp up production without demand certainty. Meanwhile, ports and infrastructure providers are unwilling to invest in costly fuel handling systems unless the industry shows clear signs of large-scale adoption. This cycle of inaction has created a bottleneck in the path toward decarbonization.

One of the core findings of the report is that fuel readiness—rather than ship design or available capital—is now the biggest obstacle to achieving net-zero shipping. To break this deadlock, the report proposes a new approach focused on ports acting as coordination hubs. By aggregating fuel demand not only from maritime shipping but also from other hard-to-abate sectors like aviation, steel, and chemicals, ports can offer a centralized platform for infrastructure investment. This strategy reduces individual risks for all players and encourages joint commitment toward shared net-zero goals.

Ports and Partnerships: The Way Forward

The report also emphasizes the importance of cross-sector collaboration. Only by aligning the interests and actions of shipowners, fuel suppliers, infrastructure developers, and regulators can meaningful progress be made. Furthermore, a significant regulatory opportunity is on the horizon. A new global net-zero framework is expected to be voted on by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in October 2025. This could provide the regulatory certainty needed to unlock investment in carbon-neutral fuel infrastructure and production at scale.

Accelleron brings over a century of experience in turbocharging, fuel injection, and energy efficiency technologies, with operations in more than 100 locations across 50 countries. The company has invested heavily in making its products compatible with future fuels like methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen. Their efforts are reflected in innovations such as the ACCX300-L turbocharger, designed with carbon-neutral compatibility in mind.

LISW25 Launch Event: A Platform for Action

At LISW25, Accelleron’s report launch event will feature a keynote presentation, followed by a panel discussion with experts from across the energy, shipping, and infrastructure sectors. The session will focus on actionable steps to move past the fuel deadlock and will serve as a platform for driving industry collaboration.

As the industry looks toward a low-carbon future, Accelleron is positioning itself not just as a technology provider, but as a facilitator of systemic change. The upcoming report and its recommendations aim to catalyze the coordinated action needed to unlock the full potential of carbon-neutral fuels—and, ultimately, to accelerate the maritime sector’s transition to net zero.
