Dr Seonghoon Woo, CEO of Amogy, highlights the urgency of addressing shipping’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, which currently stands at 3% of the global total. Without intervention, this figure could soar to 10% by 2050.

The Promise of Ammonia

Ammonia emerges as a frontrunner due to its carbon-free nature and practical advantages. Dr Woo underscores its high energy density, surpassing even that of liquid hydrogen.

Ammonia’s liquidity at room temperature facilitates transport and storage, while its affordability positions it as a competitive option for the transition to cleaner energy sources.

Innovative Technology: Amogy’s Approach

Unlike conventional marine fuels, Amogy’s solution integrates a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell with reforming technology to convert ammonia to hydrogen.

This process ensures zero emissions by utilizing hydrogen produced from ammonia within the fuel cell to generate electricity.

Progress and Milestones

Amogy has demonstrated the scalability of its technology, starting from a 5 kW drone in 2021 to a 300 kW semi-truck in 2023.
