In the Middle East, a major stride toward sustainable and innovative transportation solutions has been made by ADNOC Logistics and Services (ADNOC L&S), an Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) business, in collaborating with an Abu Dhabi seaglider operator to include REGENT seagliders into its fleet for passenger transport. The collaboration is part of an effort to revolutionize the nature of offshore logistics through efficient cutting-edge technology that reduces environmental impact, reports AJOT.

A Leap Forward in Offshore Logistics

ADNOC L&S, a global leader in energy maritime logistics, will use the all-electric seagliders to transport personnel to and from offshore energy infrastructure. This collaboration reflects a commitment to modernizing the energy logistics industry with sustainable solutions. Billy Thalheimer, Co-founder and CEO of REGENT, highlighted the significance of ADNOC L&S’s involvement.

“REGENT could ask for no better end user for seagliders in UAE than the largest energy producer in the country and leader in innovation and sustainability,” said Thalheimer. “Seagliders will drastically reduce the time, cost, and emissions of offshore energy logistics, and we look forward to working together to set a new standard for the energy industry.”

Seagliders: The Future of Offshore Transportation

The Viceroy seaglider carries 12 people or 3,500 lbs (1,600 kg) of payload and has several benefits for offshore energy logistics. Operating at speeds up to 180 mph (300 km/h), the seaglider can traverse routes up to 180 miles (300 km), making it comparable to helicopter commute times. The seaglider also boasts a performance speed of more than a 70 percent advantage over existing maritime travel. Its overall innovative design allows it to float at the dock, foil in harbors, and fly over open waters, making travel via a seaglider easier and comfortable for passengers as well.

Seagliders also offer substantial savings on costs. These are supposed to cut down the direct operation expenses by 80% against that of a helicopter, due to their maintenance and operational expenses. Moreover, it is relatively inexpensive to train a seaglider operator compared to a helicopter one. Being heavily automated, coupled with an armory of sensors for higher situational awareness, seagliders will operate intuitively to the maritime captain.

Increasing Momentum for Seagliders in the UAE

The decision by ADNOC L&S to adopt REGENT seagliders as part of its operations demonstrates the increasing momentum for this technology in the UAE. REGENT has been building strategic local partnerships to advance the development and adoption of seagliders. In April, the company signed an agreement with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) to collaborate on seaglider development and manufacturing at Abu Dhabi’s Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry (SAVI) cluster. REGENT also partnered with the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transportation (DOT) to introduce seaglider services into the UAE’s transportation network.

In these partnerships, REGENT is further cementing its position in the UAE by collaborating closely with its investor, the Strategic Development Fund, part of the EDGE Group. This partnership with ADNOC L&S marks a landmark step in the future of offshore energy logistics, starting a new era of sustainable and efficient transportation solutions for the UAE and the region as a whole.
