Adrift Container Ship Towed to Safety

On September 26, a container ship which was reportedly adrift in the Arabian Sea has been towed to safety.

What happened?

On September 18, the container ship ‘MSC Ilona’ was spotted drifting in the Arabian Sea off Oman coast, about 350 nm southeast of port of destination Salalah.

The vessel was reported adrift after it suffered from an engine failure following a fire onboard the vessel.

Towed to safety:

The container ship was towed to safety by an offshore supply tug ‘Aquila’ towards the port of Salalah. The vessel will be docked in the port until further inspection and repair work is carried out.
