AET Tanker Holdings and Fleetzero have partnered to create what they claim will be the “longest-range” plug-in hybrid electric vessel. The agreement was finalized at AET’s Galveston, Texas, office, reports Yahoo.
Cutting GHG Emissions
Compared to traditional ships, the new vessel transformation is projected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 82%, preventing 1,220 tons of emissions yearly. FleetZero’s CEO, Steven Henderson, emphasizes the project’s potential to advance marine electrification and significantly reduce vessel emissions.
He also highlights that the technology is designed to improve mariner safety and operational ease, drawing from Fleetzero team members’ maritime experience. Beyond environmental benefits, the retrofit is expected to lower fuel and maintenance costs while maintaining safety. MISC Group’s CEO, Zahid Osman, views the partnership as a crucial step in their decarbonization and energy transition efforts.
