On Sep 7, a Aframax “GAMKONORA” suffered fire, reportedly in a pump room, at around 1520 LT during maintenance works at Batam Ship Repair Yard, Batam, Indonesia, Singapore Strait.
Five people died and one was seriously injured. Fire understood to be extinguished and authorities are investigating the root cause of the accident.
The cause of the fire is believed to be either open fire during welding works, or short circuit.
