- Nine new RoPax vessels being built in China will be fitted with air lubrication technology.
- The order marks the largest RoPax installation programme to date for the technology supplier.
- The systems are expected to support fuel efficiency gains and emissions reduction across the fleet.
A Naples-based shipowner has confirmed plans to install air lubrication systems on nine RoPax vessels under construction at a shipyard in China. The deal represents the largest RoPax order to date for the system supplier and builds on several years of operational experience across the existing fleet.
The programme includes vessels for three subsidiaries and continues a partnership that began in 2018, with verified fuel-efficiency gains reported over that period.
Expanding Use Across Fleet and Flag States
The order includes the first installations of the system on Greek-flagged vessels and expands the number of ships fitted within the group’s operations, covering ro-ro, passenger and vehicle carriers. The technology supplier now has 35 vessels on order or in service with the owner.
Shipyard Collaboration Continues
The air lubrication systems will be integrated during construction at the shipyard, extending a multi-year collaboration on large RoPax newbuildings. The adoption of energy-efficiency technologies continues to accelerate as shipowners focus on compliance and reducing carbon emissions.
