Alfa Laval Secures First Contract For Ammonia Fuel Supply System

Alfa Laval has signed its first contract for the FCM Ammonia fuel supply system, marking a significant step in maritime decarbonization. The system will be installed on seven ammonia dual-fuel LPG/ammonia carriers for Tianjin Southwest Maritime (TSM), reinforcing Alfa Laval’s role as a pioneer in low-carbon fuel solutions.

Ammonia as a Key Low-Carbon Fuel

With international shipping projected to double by 2050, the industry seeks alternative fuels to achieve net-zero emissions. Ammonia has emerged as a promising low-carbon fuel, with growing adoption and technological advancements.

Alfa Laval, leveraging its experience with methanol and LPG, is at the forefront of fuel transition technologies, ensuring safe and efficient solutions for future fuels.

Details of the FCM Ammonia Installation

The FCM Ammonia system for TSM will be installed at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong shipyard in China. The project includes:

  • Three 25,000 cubic metre LPG/ammonia carriers
  • Four 41,000 cubic metres of LPG/ammonia carriers
  • The first delivery is scheduled for the end of 2025
