  • Algoma achieved a historic milestone, delivering three vessels from different countries in one week.
  • Since 2013, Algoma has built 23 vessels, with 12 more under construction, reinforcing its commitment to fleet modernization.
  • New ships—Fure Vesborg, Algoma Endeavour, and Algoma East Coast—enhance operations in international, Great Lakes, and North American coastal markets.
  • Algoma prioritizes efficiency, reliability, and sustainability through strategic investments and partnerships.

On February 25, 2025, FureBear, a joint venture between Algoma and Sweden’s Furetank, received its fifth new product tanker, the Fure Vesborg. This climate-friendly, dual-fuel vessel commenced operations in China and is set to begin trading in Northern Europe by the second quarter of 2025. The remaining five vessels in the FureBear series are expected for delivery throughout 2025 and early 2026, according to Algoma Central Corporation.

Advancing Great Lakes Shipping with Equinox Class Completion

On February 26, 2025, Algoma took delivery of the Algoma Endeavour at the 3 Maj Shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia. This 740-ft forward-mounted self-unloader marks the final addition to the Equinox Class series, bringing the total to 12 vessels since its launch in 2013. Purpose-built for the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, the Endeavour is the third domestic dry-bulk ship in Algoma’s fleet with a forward-mounted boom, joining the Algoma Intrepid and Algoma Innovator.

Strengthening North American Coastal Operations

On March 4, 2025, the Algoma East Coast was delivered from the HD Hyundai Mipo shipyard in South Korea. This methanol-ready, ice-class product tanker is the first of two vessels designed to serve markets along the Canadian and U.S. east coasts. Its sister ship, Algoma Acadian, is expected to be delivered by late March.

Commitment to Growth and Sustainability

Algoma remains dedicated to fleet modernization, diversification, and sustainability. Each new vessel enhances the Company’s ability to provide stable, efficient, and environmentally responsible shipping solutions to its North American and global customers.

“This milestone reflects Algoma’s commitment to making significant capital investments to meet our customers’ needs – in the U.S., Canada, and internationally – with the most efficient, reliable, and cost-effective fleet possible,” said Gregg Ruhl, President and CEO of Algoma Central Corporation. “This is a massive undertaking that clearly demonstrates our focus on customer service, fleet renewal, and strategic growth. Special thanks to our Bear Family and partners, as these new vessels would not be possible without world-class collaboration and a world-class team.”
