  • MacArtney’s eLARS Chosen to Future-Proof Allseas’ ROV Fleet.
  • New eLARS Systems Set to Improve Efficiency and Safety for Allseas.

Allseas, a global leader in offshore energy contracting, has chosen MacArtney to enhance and future-proof its ROV operations by moving from hydraulic to all-electric launch and recovery systems (LARS). The company will replace three existing hydraulic systems with the innovative eLARS™ technology, reports MacArtney.

All-Electric eLARS Chosen as Optimal Solution

Allseas was looking to acquire next-generation electric LARS for their offshore operations. MacArtney’s eLARS proved to be the perfect solution. The eLARS system comprises cutting-edge technologies designed to provide both operational and environmental benefits.

Scope of the Project

The project is comprised of installing three 150 kN all-electric A-frames fitted with docking heads and AHC winches to be used to launch and recover a new electric ROV fleet for survey and construction tasks from 4 to 6 kilometres in depth. One eLARS system is mobilized aboard Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit vessel and further systems are planned for the pipelay vessels, Solitaire and Lorelay.

Innovation Over Traditional Hydraulic Systems

The eLARS system, as standard, complies fully with Allseas’ operational needs, including the high deck deployment, enhanced crew and equipment safety, and redundancy in recovery from maximum operating depths.

The Allseas team states: “The new systems represent a significant upgrade from traditional hydraulic LARS, delivering additional efficiency gains. We look forward to the positive impact these advancements will bring to our vessels and crew.”

Smart Technology for Increased Reliability

The eLARS system is designed to minimize environmental impact and offer smart features such as real-time diagnostics, high operational efficiency, automated launch and recovery, and upgradable control systems. The streamlined design optimizes deck space and supports eco-friendly practices by eliminating pressurized oil contamination over water.

Partnership and Commitment to Innovation

René Rasmussen, Sales Director Marine & Offshore, praised the collaboration with Allseas, highlighting their shared commitment to innovation and progressive technology.

René Rasmussen adds: “We are excited to support Allseas in their transition to electric LARS, equipping their fleet with progressive and reliable technology. Our collaboration has been outstanding throughout the process, with valuable and productive feedback ensuring the solution aligns perfectly with Allseas’ objectives.”

Cost Efficiency and Reliability Through eLARS

The eLARS system offers high redundancy and intelligent self-assessment for preventive maintenance, reducing costs by up to 50% compared with hydraulic systems. The system can be operated from shore, thereby minimizing crew onboard and reducing the cost of changing the crew. Real-time troubleshooting capabilities ensure minimal downtime and simplified installation and the use of standardised components ensures faster turnaround times and cost-efficient spares. The eLARS system increases the economic and operational efficiency of Allseas’ fleet by reducing operating expenses and optimizing resource use.
