An American Airlines flight and a Black Hawk helicopter collided mid-air in Washington D.C., resulting in both aircraft crashing into the Potomac River, reports BBC.

Horrifying Incident 

A jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members from Wichita, Kansas, and a helicopter with three soldiers on board were involved in an incident. Nineteen bodies have been recovered, according to a law enforcement source. The US Figure Skating Association confirmed that several members of the skating community were on the jet.

The mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and a Black Hawk helicopter occurred near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport around 9 PM local time. The resulting crash into the Potomac River has been described as a “terrible accident,” and the circumstances surrounding the helicopter’s flight path are under scrutiny.
