During the biannual SMM maritime conference in Hamburg, ABS sponsored the AMVER Awards, recognizing the significant contributions of German shipowners to the AMVER reporting system. At the Übersee-Club in Hamburg, 308 vessels from 54 German-managed companies were honored. These companies received colored pennants for their participation in maintaining maritime safety and responding to distress calls worldwide, highlighting their dedication to the safety of sailors across the globe.

ABS Highlights Importance of Collaboration in Maritime Safety

Ezekiel Davis, Vice President of Europe Business Development at ABS, emphasized the importance of the AMVER system for ensuring global maritime safety. He noted ABS’s pride in collaborating with the U.S. Coast Guard to recognize the bravery and dedication of those involved in protecting lives at sea.

Benjamin Strong, Director of AMVER Maritime Relations for the U.S. Coast Guard, praised the long-standing tradition of seafarers helping one another. He acknowledged the often-overlooked efforts of German mariners and emphasized how their commitment adds an extra layer of safety for all at sea. Strong highlighted the Coast Guard’s pride in recognizing such selflessness.
