A Glimpse into Cutting-Edge Facilities

Shyam Jagannathan, India’s newly appointed Director General of Shipping, embarked on a visit to Anglo-Eastern’s flagship training center in Mumbai. The purpose of the visit was to explore the center’s state-of-the-art facilities and inaugurate a new dual-fuel engine and LNG bunkering simulator. This simulator is designed to prepare seafarers for the latest technologies, aligning with the industry’s transition towards a net-zero future.

Innovation and Commitment to Upskilling

Accompanied by Capt. K.N. Deboo, Francis Akkara of the Anglo-Eastern Maritime Training Centre, and Vineet Gupta, head of the India crewing division, Mr. Jagannathan took a comprehensive tour of the facilities. The center, which underwent a complete overhaul and redesign during relocation last year, impressed him. Notably, the discussion highlighted the center’s dedication to upskilling seafarers, preparing them for the evolving challenges of the maritime industry in the years to come.

Inaugurating Cutting-Edge Simulators

The highlight of the visit was Mr. Jagannathan’s participation in the inauguration of the newly installed dual-fuel two-stroke engine simulator, housed in the liquid cargo handling simulator room. During this session, the faculty provided insights into dual-fuel engines, emission control regulations, LNG bunkering requirements, and the advanced nature of the latest engine technology. 

Collaborating for a Competitive Edge

The visit also encompassed discussions on how Indian seafarers can strengthen their position in the international crewing market. Mr. Jagannathan emphasized the crucial role of proactive, high-quality training in this endeavor, commending AEMTC’s commitment to this cause. He expressed his gratitude for the continued dedication of the Anglo-Eastern leadership team to India’s seafaring community. Looking ahead, Mr. Jagannathan expressed his intention to involve industry members in committees aimed at enhancing the training and examination systems within the Directorate General of Shipping and Mercantile Marine Department. The ultimate goal is to bolster the global standing of India’s certificates of competency, and Anglo-Eastern looks forward to contributing to this vision.
