An oil spill incident was reported in Antwerp’s Deurganck dock last week, reports Engine referring to the Port of Antwerp Bruges authority.

Oil spill incident

The oil spill incident occurred during a bunker operation last Thursday, with the impact confined to the Deurganck dock area. Since then, the port authority has been working with the Maritime Access Department and a cleaning agency to clear the oil spillage.

More than half of the ships in the dock area have been cleaned and departed, while the focus now shifts to cleaning the quaysides on both sides of the dock, according to the port authority’s latest update.

Together with the terminals, Brabo Cleaning Services and the other logistics partners, we are looking on an ad hoc basis at which ships are able to dock as a selective prohibition on navigation still applies,” the port authority stated.

Bunkering has been mostly unaffected by the oil spill in the area, two sources say. The clean-up activity caused slight delays, but bunkering has not been impacted, according to one source. Meanwhile, supply is normal in the port, a trader said. Lead times of 3-5 days are recommended across all grades.
