API Marine has launched a new radar tank gauging device, expanding the functionality of its API SMART cargo control and automation systems for tankers.

The API tank level radar TGD-R (tank gauging device – radar) operates on 26 GHz high-frequency and can measure up to 35m.  The antennas and the microprocessor have been optimised for high speed signal analysis, enabling their use in challenging measuring environments such as chemical and product oil cargo tanks.

The device can be delivered as standalone level sensors or as a part of an integrated cargo control system.  Combined with API’s acoustic level gauging device, the Multifunction TGD, the new radar device enables operators to meet any requirements for accurate level measurement in the tank management market.

Sven Egelund Rasmussen, managing director, API Marine, said: “The new tank level radar is a valuable extension of the API Marine sensor portfolio, and will further strengthen our position in the chemical and oil tanker market.”

The new device will be introduced at the SMM Hamburg, 6-9 September, where API Marine will be exhibiting (Hall B6, Stand 212).
