APM Terminals Mumbai Transitions to 80% Renewable Electricity

117

APM Terminals Mumbai (GTI) has recently transitioned to 80% renewable electricity by commissioning a 10.65 MW captive solar power plant in collaboration with O2 Power. This marks a significant step toward achieving a sustainable, renewable-energy powered container terminal.

Captive Solar Power Plant

GTI’s new 10.65 MW captive solar plant will generate over 21 GWh annually, powering essential terminal operations such as quay cranes and reefers. This move towards self-generated renewable energy reinforces GTI’s commitment to reducing reliance on conventional power sources.

Carbon Emission Reduction

The initiative is expected to reduce CO2 equivalent emissions by more than 15,000 tonnes annually, achieving a 41% reduction in carbon emissions. This substantial decrease underscores GTI’s contribution to mitigating environmental impact and aligns with global sustainability targets.

Partnerships and Sustainability

Partnering with O2 Power, one of India’s fastest-growing renewable energy companies, GTI not only enhances its sustainability credentials but also fosters long-term economic and environmental resilience. This collaboration supports GTI’s commitment to the ‘Harit Sagar’ Green Port Guidelines and aligns with India’s renewable energy goals.
