According to Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young, Apple plans to release a new 27-inch iMac in early 2022. Young’s tweets and additional details he shared with MacRumors.
The next iMac Debut
Young told MacRumors that the iMac’s 27-inch display will contain mini-LED illumination, implying that it will be branded with XDR. Apple is expected to debut the next iMac in the first quarter of 2022, according to Young.
The 27-inch iMac display will have ProMotion, which allows for an adjustable refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz, according to Young. Young did not specify the display’s resolution at the time this report was written, but the current 27-inch iMac has a 5K resolution.
Display Related Rumours
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro was released earlier this year, and the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro were released this week. Apple’s recent supremacy in mini-LEDs, according to Young, will continue with the new iMac.
Young has proven to be very accurate with display-related rumours, having correctly predicted that the new iPad mini would feature an 8.3-inch display and that the new MacBook Pro models would feature ProMotion.
While he made an initial misstep with this rumour by stating it was for a standalone display rather than an iMac, he has proven to be very accurate with display-related rumours.
Young has 25 years of experience in the display market and appears to have strong ties to industry sources.
