ESL Shipping’s subsidiary AtoB@C Shipping took delivery of Biomar, the seventh 5,400 dwt plug-in hybrid vessel in its 12-vessel newbuilding series—marking another important milestone in the company’s journey toward greener shortsea shipping across Europe.
A Step Toward a Greener Fleet
Biomar has been delivered to ESL Shipping’s subsidiary AtoB@C Shipping on June 16, bringing the number of 5,400 dwt plug-in hybrid newbuildings in the fleet to seven. The delivery marks another significant milestone in the company’s journey toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient fleet.
“We are thrilled to welcome Biomar into our fleet. With each new vessel, we are building a greener future for shortsea shipping in Europe,” said Frida Rowland, Commercial Director at AtoB@C Shipping.
These hybrid vessels are designed to significantly reduce emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and meet the highest environmental standards in the shipping industry.
Final Vessel Construction Begins
On June 17, a steel-cutting ceremony marked the official start of construction for the twelfth and final vessel in the series, named Luxomar. The company also announced that the eighth vessel, Ventumar, was launched on May 30 and is currently being outfitted for delivery in Q3 2025.
A Series Built for Sustainability
AtoB@C Shipping’s 12-vessel program is being constructed by Chowgule & Company, with one vessel scheduled for delivery each quarter until autumn 2026. The series is a central component of the company’s strategy to modernize its fleet and lead in sustainable shortsea transport.
With Biomar now part of the fleet and Luxomar entering the construction phase, AtoB@C Shipping continues to reinforce its commitment to cleaner, more efficient maritime transport in Europe’s regional waters.
