Auramarine Launches Ammonia Fuel System to Support Maritime Decarbonization

53

Auramarine, a leading innovator in fuel supply systems for the marine, power, and process industries, has unveiled a new Ammonia Fuel System aimed at accelerating the energy transition in shipping and aiding the industry’s efforts to meet tightening environmental regulations. This launch builds on Auramarine’s ongoing green strategy, which began with biofuels and advanced with the introduction of a methanol fuel system in 2022. The new ammonia system represents the company’s latest step in supporting sustainable fuel choices to facilitate decarbonization.

Fueling the Future: Ammonia as a Decarbonization Solution

Auramarine’s Ammonia Fuel System is designed to assist shipowners in adopting ammonia as a clean fuel option. With over 50 years of expertise in developing comprehensive fuel supply systems, the company has crafted this ammonia system in strict adherence to safety, design, and material standards. It is versatile, compatible with both two-stroke and four-stroke engines, and can be utilized by other ammonia-consuming technologies. The system integrates safety measures such as gas and leak detection, ammonia capture, and the ammonia release mitigation system (ARMS) to ensure operational security. Customers will also benefit from comprehensive and ongoing training provided by Auramarine’s lifecycle services team, ensuring the safe use and maintenance of the system.

Collaborative Development and Safety First Approach

The development of this ammonia system involved close collaboration with ammonia experts and leveraged insights from the HENNES research project, in which Auramarine is an active participant. This partnership enabled the company to mitigate risks and ensure that the system meets the highest safety and regulatory standards while addressing the needs of shipowners and operators.

John Bergman, CEO of Auramarine, expressed enthusiasm about the system’s potential, stating, “Ammonia offers a zero-carbon pathway for shipping’s transition to net zero, and as experts in fuel supply systems, we see it as our role to ensure the safe and viable adoption of this fuel. We’re proud to introduce the Ammonia Fuel System to help the industry move forward.”

Looking Ahead: Meeting Industry Demand

Auramarine’s Ammonia Fuel System is already drawing interest from shipowners, operators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and shipyards. The company expects to deliver its first units by 2026, marking a significant milestone in the global maritime industry’s push toward decarbonization. As the industry navigates the complexities of the energy transition, Auramarine’s commitment to safety, reliability, and performance in fuel supply systems continues to play a critical role in advancing sustainable solutions.
