- BAR Technologies & CMET signed an agreement to mass-produce 20m & 24m WindWings® after a successful launch in September 2024.
- The new WindWings® models cater to Handymax bulkers, chemical tankers, and general cargo vessels.
- WindWings® operates with a patented three-element wing design.
Following the successful launch of the 20m and 24m WindWings® in September 2024, BAR Technologies and CM Energy Tech Co., Ltd (CMET) have signed an agreement to begin mass production of these models. With a rising demand for wind-assisted propulsion, the expansion ensures that Handymax bulkers, chemical tankers, and general cargo vessels can integrate fuel-saving and emission-reducing technology without fleet overhauls, reports BAR Technologies.
Wider Maritime Adoption
The agreement accelerates the adoption of WindWings®, as shipowners seek IMO 2030-compliant solutions that cut costs without switching to expensive alternative fuels.
Each WindWing® saves up to 0.7 tonnes of fuel per day, representing a major advancement in green shipping solutions.
Market Demand & Growing Trust in Wind-Assisted Propulsion
John Cooper, CEO of BAR Technologies, highlighted the overwhelming industry response, particularly for mid-sized vessels.
“Shipowners now trust the physics behind our three-element wing design, validated by DNV Maritime. Partnering with CMET enables us to scale production and make wind propulsion commercially viable at a global level.”
CMET’s Executive President, Huafeng Zhan, emphasized the growing demand for sustainable shipping solutions, stating that WindWings® provides a practical and cost-effective way to meet tighter regulatory pressures.
