Berg Propulsion And Jiangsu Dajin Extend Strategic Partnership After ‘Supplier Of The Year’ Win

Berg Propulsion has formalized an extended collaboration agreement with China’s Jiangsu Dajin Industry Co. Ltd, marking a new chapter in a relationship that has already yielded successful outcomes across dozens of shipbuilding projects. The agreement follows Berg’s recognition as ‘Supplier of the Year 2024’, awarded by the shipyard, solidifying their growing strategic alliance.

Milestone Collaboration Recognized with Industry Accolade

Since mid-2021, Berg Propulsion and Jiangsu Dajin Industry have collaborated on propulsion systems for 69 vessels, with nearly 60 of those being 5,200 dwt and 5,900 dwt multipurpose ships — a segment where Berg’s technology is in high demand. This long-standing partnership was publicly acknowledged at a signing ceremony in Shanghai, attended by representatives from Bestway Marine Section, the Swedish Consulate, and Business Sweden.

The event highlighted the synergy between both companies and celebrated Berg’s recent recognition as ‘Supplier of the Year’, presented in front of 500 shipyard workers.

Delivering High-Tech Solutions Across a Growing Fleet

Berg’s role has extended beyond multipurpose ships to include specialized propulsion systems for more complex vessels, such as a 6,600-dwt ro-ro container ship delivered in 2023. The ship’s twin four-stroke engine setup includes Berg’s control pitch propellers, Dynamic Drive system, and a fully redundant frequency stabilizer. The partners are now working together on 11 x 1064 TEU container feeder vessels — a new class for the shipyard — where Berg will provide its MPP1320 propulsion system and 6000mm propellers, tailored for gearless two-stroke engine configurations.

Jiangsu Dajin’s expanding footprint, with new shipbuilding sites at Taizhou and Nantong, has further strengthened the relationship and opened doors to future projects that leverage Berg’s control technologies and European manufacturing quality.

A Partnership Rooted in Trust, Technology, and Vision

Stefan Sedersten, CEO of Berg Propulsion, described Jiangsu Dajin as a key global client and emphasized the importance of this renewed cooperation. The collaboration has weathered pandemic-era challenges, supported by mutual trust, flexibility, and shared innovation goals. Liu Nan of Bestway Marine echoed this sentiment, citing his visit to Berg’s Swedish plant as a turning point in appreciating the brand’s engineering excellence.

With European shipowners also favoring Jiangsu Dajin vessels equipped with Berg systems, this partnership is poised to grow even further, combining engineering prowess with forward-looking production planning and global maritime demand.
