BIMCO, a trade group for the shipping sector, has appointed a manager to run its brand-new Brussels office, which will open this week.

New company lead

Gudrun Janssens has been hired by the company to lead the new Brussels office, according to a statement posted on BIMCO’s website on Monday. On Tuesday, the office will be open.

Janssens served as director for marine safety and the environment at the European Community Shipowners’ Associations before taking the helm of environmental and technical affairs at the Royal Belgian Shipowners’ Association.

Inevitable experience

According to Lars Robert Pedersen, deputy secretary general of BIMCO, “opening our office in London last year to be near to the International Maritime Organization has confirmed our opinion that we need to be close to the decision-making processes.”

“At a time when our business strives toward decarbonization and EU laws have substantial impacts on the entire industry and the environment, opening the office in Brussels was inevitable.”

The organization’s seventh location, following those in Copenhagen, Athens, Houston, London, Shanghai, and Singapore, will be in Brussels.
