BMDV Funds Green Maritime Technologies

100

Daniela Kluckert, Parliamentary State Secretary, announced €1.4 million in grants at a workshop on alternative technologies for environmentally friendly onboard power and mobile shore power supply for sea and inland vessels. The funding, part of the BordstromTech initiative, aims to reduce harmful ship emissions and support technological innovations in maritime and inland shipping.

Diverse Projects for a Cleaner Future

The funded projects span a range of technologies aimed at reducing reliance on conventional diesel generators. These include the procurement of mobile shore power systems, ship upgrades for shore power use, and other climate-friendly onboard power generation technologies. These initiatives will significantly cut air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in German ports.

Funded Projects Overview

The BMDV is currently supporting six eco-friendly projects, including:

  • Climate-friendly passenger shipping on the Danube: €165,000.
  • Helmholtz Center Hereon’s climate-friendly research vessel: €560,000.
  • Relax Wassersport’s floating e-charging station: €240,000.
  • MIZU GmbH’s boat upgrade project: €30,000.

These projects are expected to save 353 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and up to 123 tons of air pollutant emissions annually.
