Massive explosion at Tata Steel Works Britain.
A coke oven at the works that is now isolated burst into flames raising up to 100 feet into air. The Tata Steelworks in Port Talbot announced over 750 jobs at the site just few weeks before this incident.
Eye witness Mike O’Neill who was passing the steelworks at the time said: “My car shook with the explosion as I drove past. I can see massive 100ft flames. There was also a huge plume of black smoke.”
Four fire engines with over 30 firefighters fought against the burning blaze. Fire crews, ambulance and police were at the scene swiftly handling the situation. Still there are no reports about casualties.
Tata Steel spokesman Robert Dangerfield said: “I can confirm we are handling an incident at the moment and I will provide further information when I have it.”
Local MP Stephen Kinnock said: “My thoughts are with the workers. They do a fantastic job and it has not been an easy time for the steel industry in recent months.”
