- Brunvoll has partnered with Myklebust Shipyard to deliver a thruster package for an additional REM Offshore vessel, with an option for a third.
- The package includes azimuth thrusters, retractable thrusters, and a tunnel thruster, with advanced monitoring for efficiency.
- The vessel, named MS “REM Ocean,” is designed for offshore Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair (IMR).
- Energy efficiency features include dual-fuel methanol engines, battery packs, energy recovery systems, and a highly efficient propulsion system.
- The vessel will operate under a long-term contract with DeepOcean for Equinor.
Brunvoll has secured another contract with Myklebust Shipyard for the delivery of a comprehensive thruster package for REM Offshore. This confirms the option for an additional vessel, following the initial contract announced in May. The agreement also includes an option for a third vessel.
Thruster Package and Efficiency Enhancements
Brunvoll’s thruster system features two propulsion azimuth thrusters, two retractable azimuth thrusters, and a tunnel thruster, slightly larger than the previous vessel’s configuration. The package also includes Brunvoll’s BruCon CMS for operational monitoring and decision-making.
The vessel, MS “REM Ocean,” shares the Skipsteknisk ST-245 design platform. While the earlier vessel focused on Energy Subsea Construction, MS “REM Ocean” will specialize in Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair (IMR) for the offshore energy industry.
Energy-Efficient Design
Kristian Stavset, Head of Projects at REM Offshore, highlighted the vessel’s enhanced energy efficiency, including dual-fuel methanol engines, battery packs, and energy recovery systems. These measures aim for net-zero emissions and reduce energy usage to half that of equivalent vessels.
Collaboration and Local Expertise
The vessel’s construction highlights collaboration within the maritime industry. “Local owner, local yard, local designer, and local propulsion supplier is a testimonial for what the maritime industry can achieve together,” noted Bernt Rune Riksfjord, VP Sales at Brunvoll.
Operations and Future Prospects
Once commissioned, MS “REM Ocean” will serve under a long-term contract with DeepOcean, supporting Equinor’s subsea inspection, maintenance, and repair operations.
