Bulk Carrier Adrift After Engine Failure

Since August 30, a bulk carrier has reportedly been adrift at sea following an engine failure.

What happened?

The bulk carrier ‘Panormitis AV’ remains adrift in the north of Sabang Island, Banda Aceh, Sumatra in the Western Malacca strait. The vessel has been adrift since August 30, after suffering from an engine failure.

Assistance denied:

The crew members contacted the Indonesian Maritime Authorities for assistance but they cited non availability to tugs to tow the large bulk carrier.

They advised the owner to contact the salvage company which may provide them with the required assistance.
