Bulk Carrier Collides With Containership in Port

A recent news article published in the Maritime Bulletin states that bulk carrier broke off moorings, collided with container ship, ran aground, Taiwan.

Storm lashes Bulk carrier

Bulk carrier XIANG FU broke off her moorings at Taichung port, Taiwan, at around 0000 LT (UTC+8) Feb 20, in storm which is lashing Taiwan Strait and western Taiwan coast.

The ship drifted off the berth and contacted berthed nearby 650-TEU container ship OSG ADMIRAL (IMO 9131022, manager SHANGHAI ANRITA SHPG CO LTD). OSG ADMIRAL sustained slight damages.

The vessel drifted across the basin

XIANG FU drifted across the basin and ended up aground off the embankment.

She was refloated some 11 hours later with tugs assistance, and taken back to her berth.

Extent and character of damages unknown, but oil leak was mentioned (not confirmed).
