On May 25, 2025, a 93-meter-long bulk carrier, loaded with scrap metal, ran aground in Swedish waters near Klagshamn in southern Öresund. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. while the vessel was heading north through the fairway, reports SWZ Maritime.

No Signs Of Oil Spill

There are currently no signs of oil entering the water from the grounded vessel, and Coast Guard surveillance flights will continue to monitor the situation. The ship has approximately 69,000 liters of diesel oil onboard. Authorities warn that the risk of spills will increase once a salvage operation commences.

As of now, a decision has not been made regarding how and when the ship can be moved. Efforts by Coast Guard divers to examine the ship’s hull and bottom conditions at the site were hampered by unfavorable weather conditions, which made dive operations impossible.

Before any salvage operation can begin, a comprehensive salvage plan, developed by the shipping company and the appointed salvage company, must receive approval from both the Swedish Transport Agency and the Coast Guard. The planned inspection by Coast Guard divers of the hull and the seabed where the ship is located will provide crucial information necessary for the salvage operation and any measures required for a safe removal.
