1951

On February 6, a bulk carrier was suspected to have caused an oil loss when the vessel was docked at the pier.

What happened?

The vessel ‘Marcos Dias’ was suspected to have leaked oil in the port of Santos after oil stains were discovered. The vessel was reportedly docked at the Warehouse 22 pier, in the Outeirinhos region on the right bank of the complex to unload its cargo of salt when the oil stains were noticed.

Oil leak

Around 30 to 50 litres of oil is suspected to have leaked into the sea through cracks in the hull and reached the estuary. The port officials and technicians from the Companhia Docas do Estado de São Paulo (Codesp) were notified about the incident and they hatched an emergency plan to contain the spill.

The divers were scheduled to the survey the hull of the vessel at night and until then all operations were suspended and oil booms were placed around the vessel.
