Bulker Grounded Despite Warning

Bulker ran aground at Ahirkapi anchorage, Istanbul, despite being warned by the Egyptian Traffic Control.

In the evening hours of December 6th, a bulk carrier crossed the Bosphorus strait and travelled in the southern direction towards Alexandria, Egypt.  The vessel ignored the warning issued by the Egyptian Traffic Control of the danger of grounding.  As it continued its voyage, the 80,443 dwt cargo ship ran aground at Ahirkapi anchorage, Istanbul.

The 2010-built vessel was transiting from Taman port, Russia, Kerch Strait.  A tugboat and a fast rescue boat was sent for rescue.

There are no reports of pollution or damage to the vessel.
