Bunker Sales In Rotterdam Hit A Nearly Three-Year Low In Q3

Rotterdam’s total conventional bunker sales have dropped for a third consecutive quarter. Rotterdam’s total conventional bunker fuel sales plunged by 9%, or 213,000 mt, between the second and third quarters of this year, and were at their lowest level since the second quarter of 2020.

Bunker Fuel Sales

Total sales of marine distillates, which include marine gasoil (MGO) and marine diesel oil (MDO), dropped by 6% to 379,000 mt in the third quarter.

Total sales of marine fuel oil, which includes VLSFO, HSFO and ULSFO, declined by 9% to 1.79 million mt – the lowest sales since the second quarter of 2020.

Conventional bunker fuel sales by grade in Rotterdam since Q1 2021:

VLSFO sales declined by 11% to 811,000 mt in the third quarter, and were far off the recent peak sales of 1.02 million mt recorded in the fourth quarter of last year. HSFO sales decreased by 7% to 790,000 mt in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, sales of ULSFO declined by an even greater 15% to 187,000 mt.

Rotterdam’s total conventional bunker sales in the first three quarters of this year were about 1% lower than the same period last year.
