The 459,126 metric tonnes (mt) of marine fuel that were sold in Panama last month marked a 21.7% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase on the 377,180 mt sold in April 2024, reports Bunkerspot.
Last month’s total was, however, down on the 498,814 mt that was sold in March, data published by the Panama Maritime Authority shows.
Panama March bunker volumes jump to 3-month high
For the second time this year, sales of very low sulphur fuel oil (273,571 mt) fell below the 300,000 mt mark.
April was another strong month for sales of high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO), which reached 133,332 mt.
Elsewhere, sales of low sulphur marine gasoil (48,282 mt) rose y-o-y and month-on-month (m-o-m). Conversely, the 3,941 mt of marine gasoil sales marked a y-o-y and m-o-m decrease.
During the first four months of the year, a total of 1,851,901 mt of marine fuel was sold in Panama – 23.5% up on the 1,499,655 mt recorded during the same period in 2024.
Some 627 vessels called Panama for bunkers last month – up on the 506 that called in April 2024 but down on March’s 666.
For a second successive month, there were 30 bunker vessels in operation.
