Burckhardt Compression, a global leader in reciprocating compressor technology, has announced a major order to supply LNG boil-off gas handling compressors for eight LNG vessels being constructed by Hanwha Ocean. This order represents a significant expansion of the company’s marine business portfolio, particularly in the LNG carrier market.

Entry into LNG Carrier Market with New Compression Solutions

The selected compressor platform is a recent addition to Burckhardt Compression’s offering for the LNG carrier industry. This order marks the company’s debut in providing boil-off gas handling compressor solutions specifically for LNG carriers equipped with low-pressure 2-stroke engines, signaling a new chapter in its marine business.

Advanced Technology for Efficient LNG Transport

These LNG carriers will feature low-pressure propulsion systems paired with Hanwha Ocean’s patented partial reliquefaction system. Burckhardt Compression’s compressors play a central role in this process, boosting LNG boil-off gas to 150 bar pressure. The design includes completely dry-running cylinders on all stages, contributing to a more compact and efficient system.

Broadening the Marine Product Range

Fabrice Billard, CEO of Burckhardt Compression, highlighted the importance of this order in the company’s ongoing efforts to support the marine industry’s transition toward more sustainable practices. “With this order, we are broadening our product range to meet the evolving needs of the marine industry and reinforcing our position as a major player in the LNG market,” he said. The company’s cutting-edge compressors are set to play a key role in advancing the sustainability goals of the global LNG sector.
