On January 14, the oil tanker which was reportedly on fire for over a week at Sea, which had 32 crew members onboard were finally declared dead.
What happened?
The oil tanker ‘Sanchi’ was reportedly burning in the East China Sea for more than a week, had finally sunk.
On January 6, the oil tanker collided with a cargo ship off Shanghai, in the East China Sea and drifted south-east towards Japan.
The tanker was carrying 136,000 tonnes of ultra-light crude, reportedly sunk after sudden ignition.
Crew members declared dead:
The Iranian officials have officially declared all the 32 crew members – 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis who were onboard the tanker dead..
Around 13 vessels and Iranian navy were involved in salvage operations amid unpleasant weather conditions.
On Saturday, salvage workers had boarded the vessel and found the bodies of two crew members in a lifeboat. It had been unfortunate to note that only three bodies have been recovered until now.
The rescue workers retrieved the ship’s black box but had to leave quickly because of the toxic smoke and high temperatures.
