Cadeler’s New Flagship Vessel “Wind Peak” Sets New Standards in Offshore Wind Installation

Cadeler, the world’s largest operator in offshore wind installation, operations, and maintenance services, has expanded its fleet with the delivery of its newest and most advanced vessel, Wind Peak. Delivered on time and within budget, Wind Peak marks a significant milestone in Cadeler’s strategic growth, enhancing its capacity to meet the increasing demands of future wind farms in terms of size, scope, and complexity. This vessel is the first of seven new builds that Cadeler has contracted, positioning the company at the forefront of innovation in the offshore wind industry.

A Landmark Achievement

The Wind Peak, a P-class jack-up installation vessel, was delivered from the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry shipyard in Qidong, China, and celebrated in a naming ceremony at the shipyard. As the most modern and innovative vessel in the industry, it is specifically designed to handle some of the largest wind turbine components in the offshore wind sector. Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler, highlighted the vessel’s importance, calling it a “landmark occasion” for the company, reflecting years of meticulous planning and collaboration.

Setting New Industry Standards

Wind Peak, along with its sister vessel Wind Pace, is engineered to operate at the most challenging offshore installation sites globally. With unparalleled loading and installation capacity, coupled with the industry’s most advanced technology, these vessels are equipped to install the largest wind turbines currently being deployed worldwide. Gleerup emphasized that the vessel represents Cadeler’s commitment to adapting to the evolving needs of its clients, who are continually pushing the boundaries of wind turbine size and complexity.

Innovative Design and Capabilities

The P-class vessels, including Wind Peak, are remarkable in their ability to transport and install up to seven complete 15 MW turbine sets or five sets of 20+ MW turbines per load. This capacity significantly reduces the energy intensity of installations and cuts down on installation time, ultimately lowering the total cost and carbon footprint per turbine. As the largest vessels in Cadeler’s fleet, they feature an expansive deck space of 5,600 m², a payload capacity exceeding 17,600 tons, and a main crane capable of lifting over 2,500 tons at 53 meters. Additionally, each vessel can accommodate up to 130 crew members and installation technicians.

Sustainability and Technological Innovation

Cadeler’s commitment to sustainability is exemplified by the P-class vessels’ design, which includes the ability to utilize biofuels and an advanced electrical system that saves excess energy for reuse. This innovative approach underscores Cadeler’s dedication to providing better solutions for its customers while addressing the increasing need for sustainability in the industry.

Partnerships and Future Prospects

The successful delivery of Wind Peak is the result of close collaboration with Cadeler’s strategic partners, including COSCO, GustoMSC NOV, Kongsberg, Huisman, and MAN Energy. The sister ship, Wind Pace, is expected to be delivered in Q2 2025. Both vessels will be registered in Denmark, further strengthening Cadeler’s leadership in the global wind power sector.
