On August 14, a Capesize bulk carrier ran aground when it was transporting a massive cargo of coal to a nuclear power plant.
What happened?
The Capesize bulk carrier named ‘Clia’ ran aground near Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The vessel was reportedly transporting over 80,700 tons of coal to Taiwan’s Power Hsinta power plant.
No damages reported:
The officials from Taiwan’s Maritime port inspected the stranded vessel and found that the vessel did not suffer any damages to the hull.
The bulk carrier belongs to Greece’s Transmed shipping, have been trying to refloat the vessel with the help of tugboats on Tuesday.
No pollution:
Fortunately, during the incident none of the crew members onboard the vessel were injured and the port officials have suggested the owners to salvage the vessel quickly before the typhoon season kicks in.
Investigation launched:
The port officials have initiated investigation to determine the reason for the vessel running aground.
