Captain to be Fined for Using Heavy Fuel in Port

A captain has reportedly been fined in Marseilles criminal court for violating fuel standards.

What happened?

The captain of the vessel ‘Azura’ was detained on March 29 when it stopped over at the Marseilles port.

Upon inspection it was discovered that the captain of the vessel was using heavy fuel and violated the fuel standards.

Captain fined

The captain of the vessel was apprehended and ordered to appear at a criminal court where he.confessed to committing the crime.

The ship violated the fuel norms by using heavy fuel oil with 1.68% of sulfur, exceeding 1.5% limit.

The captain will be arrested when the ship will call French port next time on June 1 and may be facing up to a one-year imprisonment plus a fine of 200,000 Euro.
